Jackson County is located in the Upper Cumberland Region of Tennessee. Gainesboro, the county seat, is located 80 miles East of Nashville, 127 miles West of Knoxville, 120 miles Northwest of Chattanooga, and 20 miles North of Cookeville.

Jackson County was named in honor of Andrew Jackson, the seventh President of the United States. Jackson County, the eighteenth county established in Tennessee, was created by an act of the Tennessee Legislature on November 6, 1801.
